Trauma
Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes and affects people of all ages even young children. The response to trauma can be different for every person. It can display as hypervigilant behavior, anxiety, or behavioral issues to name a few.
Trauma events can be a major event or a minor event that evokes a persistent reaction to the experience. Trauma can occur medically, emotionally, physically, or sexually. These events and memories of the event can be triggered by anything in the present day. Smells, sights, and sounds can all trigger unresolved trauma.
The goal of trauma work is to help the brain reprocess the trauma so it does not get triggered by events in the current day.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are two approaches I use to treat trauma.
